Meyer troubleshooting

Meyer filler fill height problems: high fills, low fills and no fill

Fill height problems on a Meyer filler almost always trace back to one of four things: counter-pressure in the bottle, the liquid valve and vent tube, the bowl level, or how the valve is closed. Before moving a fill height sleeve, work through the causes below. Moving the sleeve outside its normal range only hides the real problem.

No fill

Likely causeWhat to do
No counter-pressure in the bottleFix the counter-pressure problem first (see the counter-pressure guide).
Liquid valve stuck: binding lever fork, bent valve cage or a screen that is not freeWork the valve by pushing up on the vent tube. If it keeps sticking, replace the liquid valve, lever fork or vent tube.
Valve will not open because the stem guide collar has slipped and released spring tensionReset the guide collar and its set screw or snap ring.
Broken glass in the centering cupClear all glass from the centering cup and sealing rubber.

Slow, uneven or restricted flow

Likely causeWhat to do
Spreader out of place or damagedReposition or replace the spreader.
Debris on the valve screenClean the valve thoroughly.
Damaged liquid ferruleReplace the snift block assembly.
Bent or partly blocked vent tubeStraighten, clean or replace the vent tube.
Neutral position cam set wrongReset the neutral cam.
Bowl level above the charging valveCorrect the bowl level (see the level control guide).
Bottle not seated properly by the liftCheck the lift cylinder and stirrup gripper.

High fills

Likely causeWhat to do
Loose vent tube or damaged screenTighten the vent tube; replace the screen.
Only partial counter-pressure in the bottleFix the counter-pressure problem.
Valve not closing completely: closer track too low or weak closer springAdjust the closer track and replace weak springs. Check that levers move freely.
Leaking snift valveReplace the snift seat rubber or broken spring.

Low fills

Likely causeWhat to do
Restricted flow into the bottleWork through the slow-flow causes above.
Bowl level running lowCheck the level control, float and blow-off valve.
